Private Equity

With an established track record spanning more than two decades, EFG Hermes Private Equity is one of the region’s leading private equity houses. The division’s success over the years stems from its ability to leverage the power of the EFG Hermes distribution platform across the region, its broad network of relationships, as well as public market intelligence through EFG Hermes’ group-wide accrued insight. The division’s investments are mainly focused on 3 categories namely renewable energy investments through Vortex Energy, Healthcare investment through Rx Healthcare and Education Investment through Egypt Education Platform (EEP).

Education

EFG Hermes launched in December 2018 a USD 150 million fund dedicated to investing in Egypt’s K-12 education sector. The fund, in partnership with GEMS Education, the world’s leading K-12 education provider, seeks to establish a USD 300 million investment platform dedicated to investing in the growing and underserved K-12 education sector. The platform’s investments include (i) acquiring existing operational schools, (ii) securing land plots to develop new schools (greenfield developments), and (iii) investing in complementary services to build a vertically integrated platform with GEMS taking responsibility for the day-to- day operations/management of the platform's assets. As it stands, the platform has an aggregated capacity to serve c. 9,000 students after having signed a deal to acquire an international school in the city of Rehab, bringing the total number of schools under its purview to five. In 2019, the platform completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Egypt’s leading transportation provider, Option Travel — its third investment.

Conventional Funds

EFG Hermes also invests in numerous other sectors ranging from real estate and manufacturing to the oil and gas industry, aiming to generate sustainable positive returns regardless of the industry. The Firm controls three funds which invest in diverse sectors across Egypt and the MENA region: Horus Food and Agribusiness Limited Partnership, EFG Capital Partners Fund III, L.P., and EFG Capital Partners Fund II, L.P.
